Are You Going To Adopt A Dog? Remember That A Puppy Is Not A Person!

Are you going to adopt a dog? Remember that a puppy is not a person!

Adopting a dog is one of the biggest decisions you will make in life. It is probably also one of the most satisfying. But remember that a puppy is not a person if you decide to adopt one.

Some people think they are showing love by treating animals like humans. In reality, however, it is a form of abuse, and below we will explain why.

Adopt a puppy

Remember that  animals may resemble humans in some ways, but that they are still animals with specific needs. This does not mean that we should love them more or less, just that everyone has their place.

The greatest similarity with people is the need to have company and to receive and give love. They are also sentimental and social beings. But there are big differences. They have a harder time distinguishing flavors,  so giving them human food can be more harmful than you think.

Treating a dog like a human does more harm than good. Here are the reasons why:

  • Dogs need an alpha:  dogs are herd animals and therefore need to be led by an alpha. If you treat your dog like your peer, he will feel lost and may assume an alpha role that does not belong to him. This will create problems with your coexistence. In the same way, you will hurt the animal, and he will not feel loved or capable of loving, which is of utmost importance for a dog.
  • He loses his identity:  a “humanized” dog (treated as a person) can have identity and personality problems. He will not want to be close to other dogs, but cling to his owner as if life depends on it. He will not develop his personality, but will become an animal with low self-esteem. He will have trouble relating to other dogs and people who do not give him attention.
  • He becomes unstable:  socialization with other animals and people is an important part of the dog’s development and stability. If an animal lacks socialization, he may react strangely or inappropriately to certain situations.

Other important factors regarding how to treat a dog

  • Change will scare him:  a humanized dog will react negatively if you go on vacation for a few days. He will be so attached to you that it will seem like he was raised in a bubble. Your pet will be helpless outside of this bubble and will not know how to survive. It does not matter if you leave him with a friend, with someone you know or at a dog hotel, your dog will not be able to adapt because he is humanized.

As we mentioned above, this does not mean that you should stop loving your pet – the exact opposite! Just remember that a puppy is not a person, and therefore should not be treated as one. Everyone’s place in the home creates a peaceful and happy environment.

Do not raise or treat your puppy as a human. Raise it as a dog with a strong character and its own personality; one that can adapt to you and the circumstances. Do not stop him from being who he is.
